About Me
I graduated from miami-dade-college">Miami Dade College with an Associates Arts degree. I graduated with honors and a 3.6 GPA and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. I transferred to Florida State University to complete my bachelors. I graduated from Florida State University with a 3.5 GPA. I am continuing my education at miami-dade-college">Miami Dade College and plan on finishing by Fall 2013. My goals are to complete dental school.
While being a full time student at miami-dade-college">Miami Dade College I was also a full time teacher assistant at an elementary charter school. I assisted teachers and gave private lessons for an hour to five children ranging from second and third grade. The miami">tutoring sessions were done to encourage and strengthen the student so they do not fall behind. The subjects I taught were mostly reading. The students behaved well which allowed more lessons to be taught. I only had an hour to teach so timing was important. Every other day 5 to 10 students will be taken out of the class for an hour to have a miami">tutor session with me. Each student had their books and I had a teachers lesson book that assisted my teaching skills.
I tried to make the miami">tutoring experience fun by having the students engaged in the lesson. I asked them questions to make sure they were paying attention and asked if they can help me solve a math problem or read the passage. I planned activities and lessons that will increase the students achievement, and planned ways of recognizing even small improvements for each individual student. I tried to be a trustful and fun person to learn with. I enjoyed interviewing the students on the subject and having discussions with the classroom and also comparing the answers to others. I showed them how to highlight the most important points from the passage, increased their vocabulary, and how to stop reading when confused. Each student in the group had an assignment.
