Fun Facts
I'm just a regular college student. I spend my time working, at school, or at practice.games. I love water polo, reading, hiking, and working with kids. I have been playing water polo for 6 years now and am currently playing at the moment as well. I also played the cello for 10 years in school. as far as passions go I would have to say water polo and the cello are top ranking.
About Me
I am in my second year of college at PCC. I am studying to be a speech pathologist and to be know American/Mexican sign language. I plan to transfer to cal state LA and after getting my bachelors, hopefully I will be attending their master program as well. as well when I feel it is the right time I want to take the steps and work to be a water polo coach.
Experience
My experience in tutoring is not as lengthy as others I have met, but during my senior year of high school I spent time tutoring my coaches child before practice and during the rest of the year, after class. I also am a babysitter so I have a fair amount of time tutoring kids in things such as English, reading, writing, general math and sciences. I also was a part of a group called Giving Bach that took students like me to other campuses and there we would teach other kids how to play.
Approach
In all honesty growing up, I struggled in school. I could not focus, a good amount of high school included, but in my senior year of high school I took a class that sparked my interest. I always loved English, but I did not know how to take that passion to push me through school. now I am in college and being an adult, I understand more. my goal is to help kids through the tougher times of school so that they can find that passion and pursue an education in college

English Tutoring
In English I have taken a creative writing class, English 1A in college. my major does not require many advanced English classes for the moment, but i have also taken writing/critical thinking classes, such as speech 1, speech 6 and speech 10. each class was different but they all required well written, executed and accurate information. I got a B in English 1A due to a group project, but in my other classes all received As.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
The literal definition for reading comprehension is "Reading comprehension is the ability to read text, process it, and understand its meaning. ... An individual's ability to comprehend text is influenced by their traits and skills, one of which is the ability to make inferences." I feel that most of my classes (specifically English and speech) and my education so far has taught me this. it isn't a hard skill to learn, but it takes time and patience.
Middle School Math Tutoring
I am not a math major and even though i struggled in school, I still did well in math. I always tested well and understood the work, I just was not always prompt with my homework as a kid. through college and growing up, i feel that i can help kids with the basics of math.
Science Tutoring
I liked science growing up, even wanted to be a nurse. I did not always understand stand it as a kid, but certain skills come along growing up and that's when improvement begins. with kids in the past I have had positive responses when tutoring, so I feel that I can help kids improve in the basics of science and life science.
Elementary Math Tutoring
I have had positive responses in the past when working with kids in elementary. obviously being a second year college student i can do basic math, but it is also being able to work with the child themselves.
Social Studies Tutoring
I love social sciences because its more than history or anything else. it is also understanding aspects of life and people. which is why i am a SLAM major as well. it is more than just formulas or cycles.
Writing Tutoring
I have had positive responses in the past when working with kids in elementary. obviously being a second year college student i have basic writing skills, but it is also being able to work with the child themselves. I also have taken many critical thinking and writing classes, that have furthered my skills in this subject.
Cello Tutoring
I have known how to play the cello since the fourth grade. I played for 10 years and was blessed enough to be apart of a program that allowed me to share those skills with others. I have 2 years worth of experience teaching kids how to play the cello. the cello was such a large part of my life for so long, that it would be nice to get involved in music once again.
