Fun Facts
Something that people notice about me is that I'm passionate about academics. I've always got a book with me, usually nonfiction about the natural or social sciences, and I couldn't imagine a happy world without reading and literacy. I have two sisters, one older and one younger, and we've always lived in Texas though my family is from upstate New York and New Orleans, Louisiana. Also I love cooking and art.
About Me
I'm a graduate of the University of North Texas in Denton. I majored in Biology (Bachelor of Science) with three minors: Chemistry, Statistics, and Technical Communication. I've always lived in Texas but have family in New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. I love math and science, but also have a soft spot for American history, literary criticism, and sociology.
Experience
At UNT I had opportunities to tutor my fellow students, working as a Writing Tutor at the UNT Writing Lab and a math and science Volunteer Tutor with the UNT Learning Center's Volunteer Tutoring program. My background in biology, math, and technical communication gives me the knowledge base I needed to help students in these areas, and I hone my tutoring skills with many one-on-one interactions with clients and my fellow tutors. I enjoy helping, and I love talking academics.
Approach
As a high school student, I was honestly only slightly above the middle of the herd when it came to academics, but I really found myself academically at university. For example, as a senior in high school, I took College Algebra and sadly failed, but when I got to college I payed close attention, actually put my brain to work, and earned an A in College Algebra, Pre-Calculus with Trigonometry, and Calculus I, II, and III. When you study, you do better, and studying can be simplified and engaging

Biology
Advance Statistics Tutoring
At UNT I minored in statistics, and option offered by the Department of Mathematics. Thus, I have taken Elementary Probability & Statistics, Applied Statistics, Probability Theory, and Advanced Statistics. Stats is a beautiful and practical subject.
Biology Advance Tutoring
At UNT I majored in biology, and thus have taken many biology courses from the Department of Biological Sciences, including some advanced hours. I am prepared and confident to advise someone who would like help studying advanced biology. I also worked as a research assistant in a biology research laboratory on campus.

Because I'm familiar with the required subjects for completing the GED, I feel confident that I could help someone prepare for it. I recently took the GRE and did well, and the requirements for this test are similar.
Graduate Level Writing Tutoring
As a Writing Tutor at the UNT Writing Lab, I tutored many, many undergraduates with their academic writing, and on occasion (1-3 times a week) I tutored a graduate student, consulting them on their academic writing. Most of these graduate students were non-native English speakers.
Math Tutoring
At UNT I minored in statistics and thus had to complete College Algebra, Pre-calculus with trigonometry, and Calculus I, II, & III in order to take advanced math courses. In all of these, I earned an A, so I'm confident I could advise someone taking a math course.
