Fun Facts

One thing people notice about me is that I am heavily into computers and computer parts. When I start talking about these topics, I tend to not stop.

About Me

I am a Hunter College Graduate with a major in Media Studies. I have been on the Dean's List multiple times and graduated with an overall GPA of 3.3. Currently I am saving money for my COMPTIA A+ certification so I can work in IT.

Experience

I have been tutoring for a little under 5 years, working with students of various backgrounds from my community. During these 5 years, I have been able to improve the grades of many of my students as well as help them choose which colleges are appropriate for their career choices. I have also volunteered in Queens General Hospital, circulating paperwork and transferring calls. This made me efficient and disciplined, which has also helped me manage multiple students simultaneously.

Approach

At the end of 7th grade, I underwent leg surgery, temporarily disabling me from walking for 2 months. After an accident, I was not able to attend school until February. When I returned to school, my grades suffered heavily as a result because I did not have a continuous education. This experience follows me as I tutor students because it reminds me of how everyone's education can vary from the same environment. I pride myself in helping every student, regardless of what situation they're from.

Writing Tutoring

During college I took English 101,102, and Creative Writing as well. I excelled in all three classes and have helped other college students edit and compose essays for various classes, including History classes, basic level law class essays (similar to my Copyright Law class), and English classes.

Study Skills Tutoring

All of these classes were heavy on reading comprehension and I excelled in all of them.

Algebra Tutoring

When I took this exam, it was the very first time this Regents was distributed. I received an 85 on the exam and have continued to hone my Algebra skills throughout the years of tutoring. Biology Tutoring

When I took this exam,I received an 85 on the exam and have continued to teach others in Biology/Living Environment. A few of my students have become interested in Biology as a major because of the way I taught them and explaining how so much of it interconnects with one another. I bring a level of excitement that makes understanding the material much easier for students to comprehend.

English Tutoring

English was always one of my strongest subjects. On the Regents, I passed with a 97 and I still remember which question I had gotten wrong. I am always looking for new things to read, whether its online or through the Internet. This subject is my passion and I am able to bring that out of other students as well, especially when I make connections to real life situations based on the given texts.

Government Tutoring

U.S. History/Government has become one of the many subjects I have become passionate about. I passed the regents with a 91 and passed my AP US History class with a 90. We would have weekly essays graded at a college level and I still remember many of the lessons and I always go back to those lessons when I tutor to help prepare my students the best way possible.

Pre Algebra Tutoring

Pre-Algebra is the foundation to all levels of Math beginning from 8th-9th grade. I am always on top of my game when it comes to Algebra and Pre-Algebra is no exception. By going over the basic concepts and tying them into more realistic situations that students can relate to, it makes the comprehension easier for the students.

Spanish I Tutoring

Spanish was one of my favorite subjects in high school. I passed the oral exam for the Regents with a 14/15 and the written exam itself with about an 85. I still teach students the basics of Spanish, whether it is conjugations, sentence structure, or a full written essay. These skills also carry over to college level Spanish for the General Education Requirements.

History Tutoring

History was one of my strong points during middle school and it carried well over to high school and college. Patience is my virtue, especially because of how many middle school students feel History is boring. I am able to bring a certain level of interest in the subject, especially when relating it to current events.

Math Advance Tutoring

Advanced Math in middle school is along the difficulty of the Algebra 1 regents and I have taught that subject for 7 and a half years. I can ease the students into the subject and have them gain confidence in themselves, which makes the process simpler. By teaching shortcuts and showing them what to look out for, they will excel.

Middle School Math Tutoring

Middle School Math is similar to Pre-Algebra and is the foundation to all levels of Math beginning from 8th-9th grade. I am always on top of my game when it comes to Algebra and Pre-Algebra is no exception. By going over the basic concepts and tying them into more realistic situations that students can relate to, it makes the comprehension easier for the students.

Science Tutoring

Science is one of my strongest subjects regarding middle school classes, especially when it comes to biology, ecology, and chemistry. Showing students how all of these are directly connected to them increases their interests, allowing for more information retention. This quickly leads to improved grades and sometimes a growing passion for the sciences in general.

Spanish Tutoring

Spanish was one of my favorite subjects in high school. I passed the oral exam for the Regents with a 14/15 and the written exam itself with about an 85. I still teach students the basics of Spanish, whether it is conjugations, sentence structure, or a full written essay. These skills also carry over to college level Spanish for the General Education Requirements.

Homework Coach Tutoring

Homework is one of those things students always dread and I used to be one of them. However, I always bring motivation and energy to helping students with homework, especially with those who have a lot trouble with a certain topic or subject. With positive vibes and being someone who the student can relate to, it increases their productivity which is one of my main goals.

Elementary Math Tutoring

Math is the foundation of all sciences, including electronics. I have always excelled in math but more importantly, I have always taught math to young students who feel uncomfortable with it. By showing them tips and tricks to solving problems, it creates a sense of self confidence that sticks with them for other subjects as well.

Social Studies Tutoring

Social Studies is one of those subjects where many of my initial students hated the sound of. With time, it soon became accessible and sometimes a topic of interest for them, especially when talking about ancient civilizations. Showing students how many historic events have led us to where we are piques their interest and creates a sense of enjoyment in the subject for them.
