Fun Facts

I really love sports and was so fortunate to be able to coach volleyball, basketball, track, and cross country while being a teacher in Texas. Basketball and volleyball are my passions. I love being outside and walking my dog. I was a geology major in college so the earth and its' systems really intrigue me. I love reading, writing, solving problems, and daydreaming.

About Me

My name is Becca Hewson and I am a northern Virginia native who moved to Austin, TX for a bit of adventure with my husband for four years. We recently moved back to the area with our 8 month old son to be closer to family. I really enjoyed teaching in Texas and would love to continue to help kids fall in love with math!

Experience

Throughout high school and college, I would continually help my friends with their math homework. I even tutored my friend's mom to help her prepare for her Praxis test while I was in high school. I've been a 7th grade math teacher for two years in Austin, TX and it has been the most fun job I have ever had. I love showing kids different ways to see the same problems in a more manageable way.

Approach

I like to approach tutoring as a listener. I like to see what the student knows before I go in to explain everything. I like to see where they are coming from to help me get a good gauge of their understanding. I love to think of new and interesting ways to help make math relevant to kids.
