Fun Facts
I recently just moved up to the washington/seattle">Seattle area from Kentucky, where I grew up and attended the University of Kentucky for my undergrad. I am an avid reader and love watching old movies. I also enjoy playing classical music and you can often hear me doing so at all hours of the day.
About Me
I received my undergraduate degrees in English and Music Education and I am currently pursuing my Master's in Human-Centered Design and Engineering. I am hoping to use this expertise to become a Technical Writer/Editor for one of washington/seattle">Seattle's larger companies. However, I am still leaving myself open to a variety of intriguing careers.
I have worked most prominently as a music educator and as such I have taught for over six years. I have worked with both large groups and individuals and find each enjoyable in their own ways. With individuals in particular, though, I relish the personalized impact a washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutor can have on the life of a student.
Instead of focusing on isolated figures and facts I prefer to teach larger concepts about a given subject. Although it is clearly important to understand the details, I find that if students have a larger framework in which to integrate these details they will come more naturally than through rigid memorization. I also believe studying and note-taking practices are of high importance for a student although I avoid the "one-size-fits-all" approach. Afterall, if I can teach a student how to learn effectively, they will be far better prepared to handle the task when they are without my help.
