Fun Facts
I grew up riding horses and have always loved animals. I started playing music as an adult, but have always loved to sing. I love to travel, and my favorite location has been Italy. I hope to go back very soon.
About Me
I loved math growing up, but I have learned to appreciate the English Language, literature, and the constructs of high quality writing. I learn something new everyday, and I hope to give others the desire to push themselves out of their comfort zones.
Experience
I taught English/Language Arts and Reading for five years at Dumbarton MIddle School in Baltimore County. I loved teaching and my students. I am a highly qualified educator, with an up-to-date certificate and qualifications for elementary and middle school ELA, Reading, and Math.
Approach
The skills that students learn in their elementary and middle school years can set the stage for the remainder of their academic careers. My goal is to get to know each child, their interests, goals, what drives them, and teach them the skills that they need to succeed - organization, communication, study skills, reading, and writing. It's about teaching them to take ownership over their education. This gives them confidence and the strength to persevere through the challenges they will face.

I taught English/Language Arts for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. We focused on writing structure, literature analysis, and basic mechanics. I can help students with a variety of English-based needs.
Homework Coach Tutoring
I worked for BCPS, which allows me to help students through homework struggles and organization. I have used online platforms to communicate with students and deliver assignments (BCPSOne), which allows me to navigate through those platforms with the student more thoroughly. I understand teacher expectations for student organization and assignment completion.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
Reading comprehension is an important part of education. Taking time to read and fully understand an excerpt is critical to academic success. I can help students work through their reading comprehension struggles, whether it's phonetic, visual, or meaning based.
Study Skills Tutoring
I can teach students note-taking skills along with study skills to hone in on what method works best for them and the subject matter. I am happy to help them create materials and practice with them in order to study for an exam.
Writing Tutoring
I have taught expository writing and narrative writing. I believe in using graphic organizers to help allocate ideas, examples, and explanations. I can teach about the importance of reliable sources and how to attain high quality information (and build a bibliography).
Elementary Math Tutoring
I am certified to teach middle school mathematics, and can assist through Algebra I. I can help with math facts, word problems, equations, fractions, and decimals.
