Fun Facts
I am the oldest of three and have lived in Utah since I was six. I love all things Utah. I am a diehard Utah Utes fan and even went to the Sugar Bowl in 2009!
About Me
I am an atmospheric science major at the University of Utah. I love learning about the weather but the program has definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone. In high school, I never considered myself a "math or science" person. I performed much better in my English and history courses. But in this major, I have had to take the same core math and science classes that an engineer major must take. The experience has taught me that through hard work, you can find success in any subject.
I started my college career at Brigham Young University and there, I had the opportunity to participate in the TOPS program. It was an after school tutoring program working with elementary school children in the Provo area. I also serve as a youth counselor for my church, through which I have helped the girls I serve with their homework. Through Frog Tutoring, I hope to help more students grow in their understanding and hopefully turn learning into a positive experience.
As I began to take on challenging math courses in college, I found myself becoming very frustrated. I could follow the professor as he/she walked through the problems, but when I tried to solve problems on my own, I would not know where to start. Teachers will often teach their students the skills necessary to solve a problem, but a student may have trouble knowing when or how to apply them. Once a student knows how to set up a problem on their own, they will be able to apply skills they already have to solve it. Through this process, I hope to help others realize their true potential as a student.
