While teaching in Tennessee the past two years, I have tutored students in Science, English, and Social Studies.
I like to engage the students instead of lecturing to them. I have learned the best way to engage students is to make the learning experience student centered. One of the practices I have used to do this is problem based learning. The way problem based learning works is that you present content in the form of a problem, and ask the student to come up with a solution. This style of learning is effective because it provides a dialog for the student-teacher relationship, which in turn leads to increased accountability on the part of the student.
