Fun Facts
When I am not teaching, I enjoy playing the piano and listening to music, going on hikes in the beautiful and abundant nature surrounding Seattle, getting mentally and physically stronger through fitness and exercise, going dancing with friends, and cooking yummy vegan feasts in my kitchen. Before coming to Seattle, I spent a year abroad teaching kindergarten ESL in China and volunteering with schools and farms in rural Taiwan and I cannot wait for my next opportunity to live and travel abroad!
About Me
I am a bilingual preschool teacher (Chinese/English) at Our Beginning in Fremont. After earning my B.A. in Music and Education from Stanford University in 2013, I spent a year teaching piano full time to my studio of sixteen students while also being a nanny, an accompanist, and in-home caregiver. In 2016, I graduated with my M.S.Ed. in International and Comparative Education from Indiana University, focusing on critical race theory, curriculum development, and early childhood education.
Experience
I have been teaching academic and musical subjects to students from preschool to adult for over ten years. Since my first job as teaching assistant with Kumon Math and Reading, my tutoring experience grew in college through my time with East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring (elementary and middle school subjects), ThinkMath (elementary math), and Ravenswood Reads (ESL kindergarten reading). Post college, I have continued tutoring through Varsity Tutors and Care.com (4th & 5th grade math).
Approach
My educational philosophy is driven by my firm belief that each student possesses individual capabilities and curiosities and that it is my responsibility to let their unique skills, qualities and interests guide our learning. Rather than providing answers, my teaching seeks to create confident, passionate, and self-reflective learners that can utilize problem solving and research skills to discover solutions and a love of learning that will inspire them to become lifelong learners
