I love to decorate, even though I don't have much of a creative sense. I'm constantly looking online for ideas on how to turn old trinkets into new jewels. One unusual thing I like to tell people about me is that I am afraid of heights, but I love roller coasters and I plan on going skydiving in the near future.
About Me
I am a first-year Biology student at Georgia State University. I earned a BS in Chemistry from Spelman College and a MSPH from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, where I was on the Dean's List during my entire matriculation. I hope to attend regents-university">Georgia Regents University for dental school upon graduation. My ultimate goal is to have my own dental practice.
I currently work with Georgia Tech's CEISMIC GoSTEM program atlanta">tutoring and mentoring hispanic high school students in Gwinnett County. I atlanta">tutor students in math and science classes, and I also provide them with the tools and skills necessary to ensure entrance into college such as tips on essay writing and prep for standardized test. In 2007, I tutored elementary students at Frank Stanton Elementary in grades K-2. I helped students with math and reading, and I also helped kindergarteners develop better classroom etiquette.
Before teaching a student, I think it is important to know what interests him or her, so my first step when atlanta">tutoring students is to do a study skills assessment in order to learn my students' learning style. I combine this knowledge with his interest and try to develop a lesson plan tailored to his needs. I also make sure that I understand what exactly causing a problem for the student so that I don’t waste critical teaching time. For example, if a student has a knows understands how to solve for a variable in an equation until is time to isolate the variable using inverse functions, it would be wasteful for me to start by teaching what variables represent
