Fun Facts

I grew up in Buffalo, New York, but moved to Utah to pursue my love for freestyle skiing. While I abandoned the competitive circuit during high school, I never grew out of my love for the sport. When not skiing, I can often be found climbing or hidden behind a good book.

About Me

I'm currently receiving my Bachelor's degree in a double major at the University of Utah in both German and Environmental and Sustainability Studies and have remained on the Dean's List for my entire college career. Prior to college, I took part in the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange, a scholarship sponsored by the State Department, which allowed me to spend a year in Germany as an exchange student, where I lived with a host family and attended the equivalent of German high school.

Experience

Most of my teaching experience lies in the field of freestyle skiing, where I coach at the Utah Olympic Park. I've been a coach for three years, and have worked with ages 6-18 and a vast range of skill levels. In addition, I have volunteered in the German program at East High School, where I worked with both the entire class, as well as individual students from German 1 up to AP. I look forward to expanding into tutoring, as it will allow me to fine-tune what I teach.

Approach

In learning language, I feel that speaking is king, and opens the door to writing and reading. Speaking helps remove the trepidation that learners have, and allow them to feel more comfortable when using a foreign language. When I teach, I encourage my students to try new things and make mistakes. Once they are able to speak freely, understanding the finer concepts of grammar is much simpler.
