About Me
I am a reading specialist/interventionist among other scholarly skills. I earned my B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a strong focus in education; minors in African American History and Teaching English as a Second Language. In addition, I have a Master's in Community and Teacher Leadership again, with a strong emphasis in connecting and building communities and schools we they operate as a unit and not separate entities.
My teaching approach and philosophy is one of assuming that my young scholars already know about a subject and work from that knowledge or lack of.
Experience
I have been a tutor for the Department of Disabilities Services at Northeastern since 2013, a member of the Illinois Education Association since 2012, and a recent member of the Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement. I have been a homework helper for the Chicago Public Libraries since 2014. I am also the creative community artist where I work with students on different projects.
Approach
Smooth and stead is my approach when one feels pressure behind a lesson or test, making sure that I am reassuring and competent enough to empower scholars into believing that they can do it. Find the barriers and remove them as much as possible to make way for learning is something I strongly believe in.
