Fun Facts
One of my favorite things about high school was how many activities were available to students. I participated in speech team and outdoor adventure club all four years, and spun color guard with the marching band for my last two. Since graduation, I have fallen in love with my new home of Chicago, despite its downsides. I also love kids of all ages, so my mornings spent as a preschool teacher hardly feel like work sometimes.
About Me
I am a sophomore at the chicago">University of Illinois at Chicago. I am majoring in teaching Spanish, and hope to teach at the high school level in New Orleans after graduation.
Experience
When I was a member of the National Honor Society, I was able to help tutor younger students. Since high school, I have often led and organized study groups for math, history, and especially Spanish. My work as a preschool teacher has helped me learn a lot about how different teaching techniques help different students retain information.
Approach
I have always loved learning, but was often frustrated by the approaches used in school. After being diagnosed with ADD in elementary school, I was able to understand why some of those techniques didn't work as well for me. Now, I am managing it successfully even without medication. My difficulties have given me perspective on how to help those who may not learn in the same way as their peers, but are just as bright.
