Fun Facts
I love water sports! Growing up on a tributary of the Amazon River, I was able to swim and canoe to my heart's content; now living in the United States, I do both whenever I get the chance! Recently, I also had the opportunity to learn how to wakeboard while at a leadership retreat. It was amazing! Although I've yet to try it, I also dream of learning how to surf someday.
About Me
In August 2017, I graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College with a bachelor's degree in math, and in January 2018 I became certified to teach middle and high school math in Illinois. I am currently in my last semester of Wheaton's MAT program for secondary education in math. My goals for this year are to complete my master's thesis, graduate from the MAT program summa cum laude (to one up the last degree), and continue to help people through teaching and tutoring.
Experience
I have hundreds of hours of tutoring experience under my belt that include my student teaching practicums, volunteering with non-profit organizations, teaching privet clients, and the list goes on. My chief area of expertise is in high school math, particularly algebra, but I also have significant experience tutoring middle school math and college level Calculus, Algebra, and Statistics. I also enjoy tutoring science/illinois/chicago">Computer Science, Programming, Physics, and Brazilian Portuguese.
Approach
As a student, I know that certain communication styles and methods are easier for me learn from than others, so when I tutor, I always try to find descriptions and processes that work best for each individual client. I want to make conceptual understanding as easy as possible so that learners can focus their energy on internalizing and applying the new material. I help students break unfamiliar concepts and processes into their basic elements and connect them to familiar ideas and illustrations.
