Fun Facts
I am new to Utah and I have fallen in love with the mountains. I have recently gotten a book that I am using to learn about the birds of Utah. I also plan to do the same thing with plants. I love singing and have been doing that for a long time. I am hoping to find a place to sing in Utah.
About Me
I have a Bachelor's (3.5) and Master's (3.7) in Social Work and a PhD (3.7) in African Studies.
Experience
As an undergraduate, I tutored other students in weekly sociology. At the same time I was a nanny and helped the children with their homework as well. As a social worker I taught parents how to teach their children so that they were ready for kindergarten. While completing my PhD, I mentored girls in their studies and for 3 years I worked with children from Pre-K to 6th grade. I also taught at the University level.
Approach
As a life long learner I try to instill in students a reason that learning is important beyond taking tests. I use repetition and review to help reinforce learning. When tutoring I learn about each student and try to understand them as a learner. I guide students to learn to study and learn for themselves rather than me doing it for them because this helps them truly learn and not just memorize.

PhdSociology Tutoring
I tutored Sociology as an undergraduate and my PhD is in African Studies which is an Interdisciplinary field which includes theories from Sociology. Also my BSW and MSW include teachings and theories that overlap with sociology.
Homework Coach Tutoring
Having finished my PhD, learning to study and also teaching others to study is a part of that. I have mentored as well as taught students how to study and prepare to succeed in school.

I have taken many courses about history throughout my educational career. I have also had to teach history as a substitute teacher.

I have taken courses from English literature to African Literature. I also was a substitute teacher for English and Language Arts (ELA) which included reading comprehension.

I have been signing for over ten years. I was in a 10 year relationship with a man who was completely deaf and learned to sign that way.

I have taken a lot of English and literature courses. I was a substitute teacher in English classes as well. I also was a reading interventionist for K- 4th graders.

I have taught social studies as a substitute teacher. I have also studies a great deal about history and global culture which is also a par of social studies.
