Fun Facts
I was born in North Carolina and lived most of my life on the east coast. I'm especially interested in outdoor activities and sports, especially rock climbing, hockey, and soccer. In my free time, if I'm not playing a sport, I enjoy photography, new movies and TV, and reading!
¡Yo hablo español también! Lo he estudiado por cuatro años y vivido en Madrid por cinco meses en 2012. Voy a disfrutar hablando contigo si yo puedo.
About Me
I am a recent graduate from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA, and have a B.S. in General Engineering. I just moved back to California after visiting my family back in Maryland and traveling. I am currently pursuing a full-time position, but in the mean time I would like to help out by albuquerque">tutoring local students.
In high school I tutored IB physics for Juniors and Seniors. In college, I participated in a program sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District to teach high school students how to build a solar powered boat. For three years, I helped a professor design and teach classes on the basics of electrical engineering and computer aided modeling tools. I also assisted with boat inspections and interacted with hundreds of students. In addition, I graded and tutored students in a Signals and Systems at Harvey Mudd.
I used to have a lot of trouble understanding my IB physics class, which I had to take for two years in high school. I was always frustrated when I got problems wrong and couldn't figure out which equations to use and how to use them. What helped me the most was talking one on one with my teacher, who was able to reframe the problems in new ways. I think the best thing for struggling students is not to keep repeating problems, but to explain the fundamentals in different ways until you can put it in words they understand. This usually involves creating analogies and illustrating concepts using both words and pictures.
