Fun Facts
Hello! My name is Paheli! I am a Chemistry major and I love Chemistry, Math, Latin, Swimming, Painting, and FOOD! Food is one of the greatest pleasures of life, in my opinion. It keeps me motivated to just keep swimming, studying, and painting and fuels me when I am exhausted. I also love to travel! Some of my favorite places are India, London, and Italy! I am excited to meet you!
About Me
I am a Chemistry major at UC San Diego. My current GPA is in progress, as I am a freshman in the university, but my High School GPA was 4.24. I am currently a member of the Freshman Honors Program at my College. I graduated from my High School Cum Laude, and I was part of the National Foreign Language Honors Society. I took the National Latin Exam twice and received gold medals both times in High School. As a career, I would like to expore pharmaceutical/drug research, and perhaps a part-time teaching job in Chemistry.
In my junior year of high school, I took AP Chemistry. Since I was very passionate about the subject, I did well on exams and ended up helping my classmates with many problems, lab reports, and exam review. In senior year, I joined the Peer Tutoring program at my high school. I tutored a student taking AP chemistry, bringing his exam grades up from a C minus to an A. After graduating from high school, I took up a couple of temporary paid tutoring jobs. Tutoring gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment, as well as meaning in the fact that I am able to contribute to the lives of others in my own way.
When I studied Chemistry, I did not just memorize formulas to plug in numbers and get a good grade, but I worked hard to understand the material presented to me. Because of this experience, I am able to offer simplified explanations of the material. I tend to explain concepts to students using visual examples (for example, whiteboard drawings) and I rely heavily on visual means of communication when tutoring. I try my best to present the material in a fun and relatable way to help students understand. I like to use analogies relating to everyday life to explain esoteric Chemistry concepts. Keeping the material simple and lighthearted keeps students motivated, and in turn makes me more motivated to continue teaching them.
