Fun Facts
I am an avid swing dancer. My daughter and I started about a year and a half ago, and we quickly became hooked. Now we've both been asked to teach, and we occasionally travel to conferences out of town.
I also love to read, especially period romance novels, and am a big fan of Jane Austin.
I love to cook and will try almost any new food or recipe. I have dreamed of opening up a restaurant.
About Me
I have a degree in education/texas/san-antonio">special education and graduated with honors. I was certified to teach in New York and Kentucky. After starting a family, I stayed home and taught my own four children.
Experience
I taught my own four children for more than 20 years. They have all gone on with success. My oldest received a full scholarship and got a degree in Mechanical Engineering, staying on the Dean's list every semester. I started doing private tutoring about 6 years ago. In addition to short-term students, I have had two full-time students for whom I provided a full educational program in a home-school environment.
Approach
I believe in taking the time to be sure the basics are firmly learned before progressing to more difficult problems. I am always sorry to see algebra students who can not multiply, or students writing an essay who do not know what a noun is. Time spent on fundamentals is never wasted. I also value simple, clear explanations and favor a traditional approach. For instance, I use phonics rules to teach reading, and then refer to those rules when working with spelling.

Conversational Spanish Tutoring
We attended language school in Costa Rica, and then lived there for seven years, managing all the daily activities like shopping, etc. I have since worked with my own children on their Spanish, and my oldest took the CLEP and received 4 semesters worth of credit. I have taught Spanish to other students plus in the classroom with success.
