About Me
My name is Katharine Vallerand, I am a freshmen at wayne-state-university">Wayne State University studying Social Work. I hope to graduate with my Bachelor's in Social Work and remain at Wayne State for my Master in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. I hope to one day work in a mental health facility or within the prison systems, working with patients with psychiatric disorders.
I have been detroit">tutoring for almost six years now and really enjoy it. I have worked with a wide age-range of students, from late elementary to seniors in high school. I have also worked with a wide variety of students such as students with learning disabilities and struggling students. I am comfortable with most basic subjects, i.e. English, composition, and reading-comprehension/michigan/detroit">reading comprehension, basic math and algebra, social studies, and basic sciences. With more advanced subjects I have experience in Advanced Psychology, Spanish, and English. I have also tutored in study skills and time management/organization.
When it comes to learning, every student is different, some may do well with visual aids while others succeed in repetition. No matter what way a student learns best, I believe a good detroit">tutor must be able to teach accordingly and be patient with each student. With that being said, I have found one method that has worked with all my students. When I was younger and learning how to study, my mother taught me that you learn best what you teach to others, and you truly do! Once we have covered a topic, I encourage my students to reiterate it back to me in their own words, so that they can see they know the material. Helping a student learn is an amazing experience and and is something I will forever love to do!
