Fun Facts
When I'm not tutoring, I'm generally reading or writing, but I am also an avid SCUBA diver when I get the chance. In fact, I spent two years in college working as a divemaster in Alabama and Florida. After graduation I was certified as an instructor and worked another three years in Corn Island, Nicaragua teaching people from all over the world how to dive. I have experience as a barista too, and I make a mean cappuccino.
About Me
I grew up in Illinois and moved to LA in 2016.
I write essays and fiction (still working on getting published!), and I am currently enrolled in the MFA Program for Writers at wilson-college">Warren Wilson College studying fiction. Thanks to my ACT scores, I was able to attend Auburn University on a full academic scholarship, and I graduated in 2013 with a degree in English.
I am passionate about writing and reading and love sharing that passion with the students I tutor.
Experience
I tutored throughout high school and college for private individuals, after-school programs, NHS, and the Boys & Girls Club in subjects ranging from elementary math to GED.
Since moving to LA I have specialized in college and high school composition, literature, and grammar, as well as SAT/ACT prep, and have spend hundreds of hours helping students increase their scores and understanding.
I am always working to better myself as a tutor and I learn something from each student.
Approach
My goal is to awaken each student's curiosity about and interest in the subject or assignment at hand, because it is from a place of interest and curiosity that we all do our best learning and our best work. I strive to adapt my tutoring style to the individual student and to turn what some think is a dull subject into something vibrant and vital.
For the SAT I have developed a unique in-depth analysis that allows me to target my approach and maximize each student's improvement.
