Fun Facts

I enjoy movies, particularly kung fu, action movies, science fiction/fantasy (I admit, I'm a huge Star Wars fan) and of course comedies as well. Academically I love philosophy, particularly East Asian philosophies and religions. In undergrad I did a lot of work in the theater with my passion being for stage combat, which I still pursue when I have the time. One of my biggest passions is for karate and the martial arts in general. I practice karate and plan to one day teach it as well.

About Me

I am a first year graduate student at boston-university">Boston University School of Theology. I graduated from Curry College in washington/milton">Milton Massachusetts this past May with a bachelor's degree. My majors were Communication and Philosophy.

I am from Plymouth MA, currently living in Boston while I attend school. In regards to my teaching and boston">tutoring experience, I was a peer boston">tutor twice during my undergraduate career for two classes, Eastern Religion and Chinese Philosophy. I was also a teaching assistant for a Modern Philosophy class, a First Year Honors class and a First Year Seminar class. Also, for the past eight summers I have been a day camp counselor, working with children from the ages of 4 to 14. From that I've learned a lot about teaching kids, but also how to have fun doing it.

My boston">tutoring approach involves engaging the material from a class with the student or students. I find out what questions they might have, or areas of particular concern and start from there. I do not tell a student what they need to know, rather get them to talk to me about the level of their comprehension then work from there. I will often present information in a condensed version if possible, keeping in mind the requirements of the class and the professor or teacher. Most of all I work to make the boston">tutoring experience as enjoyable as possible. I really enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them, which I feel only helps a boston">tutoring situation. If I can help a student make a personal connection to the material in a way that helps the concepts make more sense, then I feel I have done my job.
