Fun Facts

Sports have been a huge part of my life growing up and still today. I played basketball and baseball growing up but ended up playing soccer in college. The Bears and Bulls are my two favorite teams so I am of course excited about the return of Derrick Rose. This year, I also completed my second Chicago Marathon along with my roommate which was a great experience.

About Me

I completed both an undergraduate and graduate degree in accounting at chicago">Loyola University Chicago. For all four years, I played soccer and really enjoyed that experience. While I was completing my master's degree, I also got to work with a few different accounting professors as a "Graduate Assistant" and am grateful to have made new connections with my professors outside of the classroom. As of this year, I finished the CFE and CPA exams which was a relief to get through and have found myself now interested in teaching.

From spring 2011 to spring 2012, I got the opportunity to be a "Graduate Assistant" in Loyola Chicago's Accounting & Business Law Department (ABL). While I helped several students along the way, my favorite experience was assisting a student who was struggling with the program's required business law class and who needed to pass the class in order to graduate in what was to be his final semester. He had previously failed the course and reached for some 1-on-1 help. The professor then contacted me about the situation to see if I could aid the student in passing the class and him and I worked together to address his biggest areas of need before carrying on and going over all of the material. He ended up passing and going on to graduate which made me feel about as well as I imagine it did him.

While I was chicago">tutoring students mainly in accounting or business law, my first approach was to find out what, if any, the students felt was their biggest weakness on the topic or what they wanted to improve on. From there, I could assess their level of comfort as a whole before honing in on what may bring the most difficult challenge. In terms of a study approach, I would generally ask them what their technique or method was and ask and find out if they felt that could or should be altered and whether or not a different approach may be more appropriate for them. chicago">Tutoring really needs to be looked at as a partnership because when you have the same goal in mind, for the student to learn and progress, both people have to be on the same page to facilitate success.
