Fun Facts
Teaching is my first passion and running a close second is baking! I love to bake cakes, cookies, etc. and give these away. I guess if I had not been a teacher then I would have owned my own bakery. I love reading, going to the beach, traveling whether stateside or overseas. I love to spend time with my two grand children ages 3 and 4. I have a wonderful sense of humor and have been told by some of my friends that I should have been a comedian!
About Me
I have a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and retired from the SCUCISD school district last May. I tutored students while I was a teacher, and I also worked for Sylvan Learning Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. I have also taught adult ESL classes before and tutored my own students on Skype in English and ESL.
Experience
I worked in Retail Management for fifteen years before I became a teacher. My first degree was in Fashion Merchandising. I obtained my second degree from Minot State University in North Dakota then moved to Corpus Christi to take my first teaching job. I also have experience with foreign exchange students as I worked for Cultural Homestay International for five years. I enjoyed working with them and their host families. I also tutored for the school Homebound program in SCUCISD.
Approach
I feel that the greatest skill set for any tutor is that the person makes the student feel comfortable and at ease. I explain what the objective is of each lesson and what I expect from the student. That way there is no confusion. I also encourage the student to please let me know when he or she does not understand something and to not be afraid or feel silly. We all do not know everything and that it is okay to not know something. Good communication is the key to great tutoring sessions.
