About Me

If I could describe myself in three words, they would be: enthusiastic, hard-working, and personable. I have always valued having a strong educational ethic and have learned a great deal in my studies. Much of my work and volunteer experience has centered on coaching and mentoring people, and I enjoy the privilege of assisting others in reaching their full potential. Currently I am a junior at fresno-pacific-university">Fresno Pacific University majoring in Intercultural Studies.

My first fresno">tutoring experience was when, as a junior in high school, I tutored a freshman Algebra student named Dean. He went from getting "D"s and "F"s on his tests to getting "A"s and "B"s in a matter of weeks! Last school year, from September 2010 to May 2011, I tutored at the Sylvan Learning Center in Visalia, California. My students were of all ages from 1st grade through college. My main subjects were math and reading-comprehension/california/fresno">reading comprehension, and I also tutored in writing, note-taking and study skills, and Spanish. My fresno">tutoring capabilities quickly improved as I learned how to fresno">tutor three students at once, something I did throughout the course of my time at Sylvan.

When I fresno">tutor students, my top priority is that they sense my desire to see them succeed. I accomplish this by verbally affirming the positive characteristics about them as students and as individuals. When it comes to their school work, I like to first review concepts that they’ve learned recently. Next I work with them on their current topics, using a variety of methods for strengthening comprehension and ability to perform the necessary skills. At the end of every session I review what we worked on and dialogue with the parents (if the student is living at home) about their child’s progress.
