Fun Facts
Over the past few years, I have gotten ridiculously in tune with my creative side! I absolutely love the work I do as an English major, and I love to think of my writing as a form of art. Aside from that, one of my greatest passions is music. I love singing, and I've been working (very slowly, but nonetheless surely) on learning piano. I'd also love to work as a volunteer firefighter someday!
About Me
I am an undergraduate English major at The Ohio State University and I will graduate at the end of summer 2014. I have a 3.60 major GPA and have been on the Dean's list for the past two years. I am currently a member of the Teach For America Leadership Liaison Team at OSU, and I will be applying to the program early next year. It would be a dream come true to be accepted into TFA and to work in low income areas with students who could really use a caring and motivational adult in their lives!
Since I feel so drawn to the idea of teaching in a classroom, I think columbus">tutoring is a great place to execute and fine tune my own personal teaching style. Although this is my first time working in a traditional columbus">tutoring setting, when I was a senior in high school I worked as a teaching aid at an Elementary school. I worked in a second grade classroom and helped the teacher design weekly activities for the class, and I often led class discussions to gauge the responses of the students. I had a blast working with those kids. I also used to babysit 6 and 8-year-old girls and I helped them with their homework on a weekly basis. This was great for getting that one-on-one, in home teaching experience.
I have never responded well to negative reinforcement, whether it be in regards to school or sports or anything else. In fact, I don't know many people who respond well to it at all, and I can't imagine myself ever utilizing it while columbus">tutoring. I'm a happy-go-lucky and friendly person who wholeheartedly believes in the power of encouragement. Most likely, the younger the student I'm columbus">tutoring, the more excited I'll get over a correct answer. :) And because I'm such a people person, I'm confident that I will be in tune with my students and will be able to create a personalized approach to learning for each of them. I will work slowly and deliberately with each individual, ensuring that he or she fully grasps the information and can produce answers independently before moving to new topics.
