One passion that quickly learn about me is that I love to read! Nonfiction. fiction. Anytime I have a chance, I am on Audible, listening or on my Kindle app swiping pages. I enjoying singing and playing my maracas.
About Me
I taught science in Washington, DC public schools for twelve years. A trained chemical engineer, I have worked for Bethlehem Steel, Perfecseal, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and BioCore Medical Technologies. I have obtained both my Master’s in Communications, Producing Film & Video, and her Master’s in Teaching from American University (DC). I currently serve as a S.T.E.M. Learning consultant and freelance writer.
Experience
In 2008, I worked with the National Institutes of Health, National Library of Medicine, where I collaborated with teachers, college freshmen, and high school seniors to produce a YouTube video promoting the agency’s “MedLine Plus” medical database to middle and high school audiences. In 2009, as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Scholar, I joined other teachers from across the United States in traveling to coastal New England looking at origins of Winslow Homer’s paintings.
Approach
As an educator, I use a combination of strategies to reach students. I have learned that not only do you need to engage students and help them understand how they learn; you must help them understand how they think, how to persist in science and math, and any other subject they find difficult. Lastly, they must understand their social and emotional makeup as it aids in their academic learning. I help them learn how to become their own cheerleader!
