Fun Facts
Born and raised in Southern Arizona, I enjoyed my college experience running on the Cross country and track teams. Running – whether it is competing or coaching – is my passion. I like getting kids active and teaching them about what types of food can fuel them to perform their best. I also LOVE traveling and learning about different cultures. I recently visited Thailand and Argentina.
About Me
I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Family Studies and Human Development with a minor in Childhood Wellness. Last year I worked full time as a Reading Interventionist in a K-5 school. I am currently a guest teacher in the same district and have completed a long term substitute teaching assignment in 2nd grade. Additionally, I fill my time with running, hiking, tucson">tutoring, and traveling. I hope to return to school in the near future to earn my Master’s in Public Health.
In addition to teaching, for the last year I have offered private tucson">tutoring lessons. I have worked weekly with a family for the last 11 months, primarily with a 3rd/4th grader in reading, but also with her 7th grade sister and her 5 year-old brother. I have always had a passion for teaching and helping others reach their potential. In high school I was part of a mentor program designed for incoming freshman, called GearUp. Later at the University, I participated in the “Senior Cats” program, which reaches out to 8th graders to encourage them to pursue higher education. Guiding others in achieving their goals is my driving motivation!
Having had some phenomenal teachers and mentors, I look to their examples of patience, positive reinforcement, and student-driven success as my tucson">tutoring model. When I first meet a student, I listen to what their goals may be. Then we strategize together as to what the best strategies are to achieve that goal as well as an effective system to monitor progress. Every student possesses strengths and weaknesses, therefore different study strategies work for different students. I am not afraid to try various strategies to find a good fit. Furthermore, my tucson">tutoring philosophy incorporates the students’ larger learning experience both at home and school. Lastly, constant communication with students, parents, and teachers is vital to the students’ short and long term success.
