Fun Facts
Hi! My name is Yazmin and I am the oldest of five. I was born and raised in San Jose, California and now I attend university only 15 minutes away from home, lucky me! I enjoy working out and I am always up for anything outdoors— hiking, picnics, bicycling you name it!
About Me
I am a sophomore bioengineering major at Santa Clara University. Last year, I was one of thirty first year students to be awarded for outstanding academic achievement. Once I graduate, I hope to attend medical school and one day become a physician.
Experience
My tutoring career began as a sophomore in high school when I started to tutor a family friend. After that, I led my own free tutoring program at my local library for underserved children. It was a great experience for me to develop a mentorship with the kids and to develop my leadership skills. Once I graduated high school, I got a summer job with Jose Valdes Math Institute. Since college began, I’ve been doing a lot of one-on-one tutoring with students and I absolutely love it. Math rocks!
Approach
As a tutor, I realize that all students learn things in different ways. I try my best to help the student understand the material, not just to memorize it. If the student doesn’t understand it, I try to approach the problem a different way. Having a stable foundation of understanding is especially important when it comes to subjects like math and science, in which the material is cumulative.
