Fun Facts
I enjoy cooking and eating. Recently, I've been trying to get better at gardening because I want to be able to grow my own food. In an effort to build healthy habits for myself, I have been trying to exercise and eat healthy, but it's quite a struggle! Whenever I can find the time, I love reading and hanging out with my younger brother.
About Me
I have a Master of Public Health from Tulane University and a BS in Psychology from houston">the houston">University of Houston, where I also attended the Honors College. I have worked in healthcare for several years, and recently worked with a non-profit. I aspire to continue working with women and children in the non-profit world. I have several years of tutoring experience, mostly working with elementary school children, in both math and English language skills.
Experience
I had the opportunity to work with Amaanah Refugee Services as an after-school teacher, which involved helping small groups of refugee students improve their English language skills and social skills. I also worked with the Children's Learning Institute at UT Health as a Math Tutor, where I used the JUMP Math Curriculum to teach a manipulatives-based math foundation to first grade students. Recently, I was involved in the creation of an after-school tutoring program for refugee students.
Approach
I believe that experiential learning can be a powerful tool for struggling students, and I try to make any learning session as hands-on as possible. I think it's also important to build a students' confidence in themselves, as I've found it's usually not the subject that they struggle with, but with their own self-esteem.

I have a BS in Psychology from the University of Houston. Although my overall GPA was 3.3, I never earned less than an A- in any psychology course. It is a subject that I enjoy learning about to this day, and I love discussing it with others.
English Tutoring
I scored a 4 on the English AP exams, and I have some experience helping high school students with writing.

I have years of experience in trying various study techniques, some of which I picked up through MCAT Preparation courses.
Writing Tutoring
I have experience helping school students with writing, as well as personal experience in undergraduate and graduate coursework which was heavily writing-based.
Algebra Tutoring
I have worked with several middle and high school students with their algebra homework, and helping them with their other math homework as part of an after-school tutoring program.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate educations, and several years of test-prep, I have learned advanced reading comprehension skills which I have utilized both personally and while tutoring other students.
