Fun Facts
I am a focused individual with a really nerdy sense of humor and a love for children's fiction. I'm currently re-reading the Harry Potter series for the 7th time. I'm also pretty crafty, and I like to make hats, scarves, gloves, and even sweaters for my friends and family, when I find the time. I love meeting new people and helping others learn is one of my passions.
About Me
I am currently a Freshman at NYU studying Biology and Anthropology with a pre-health focus. I'm concentrating in the biology of the human skeletal system and associated musculature, and I hope to be a doctor one day. After that, I would like to curate a museum, a zoo, an aquarium, or some weird combination of the three.
As a member of National Honor Society (and a number of subject-specific honor societies) I tutored officially as part of a school organization for two years (2011-2013). Before that, I worked largely independently, helping friends and classmates to study for mathematics and science exams. Over my entire high school career, I tutored both in person and online, creating simple websites explaining chemistry, biology, physics, and math as well as containing notes from history classes. I also worked as an essay proof-reader and writing consultant in my high school's English office for two years.
I tend to select my approach based on the student I'm tutoring. Generally, I like to put concepts in terms that they are familiar with. For example, I once taught genetics to a student by explaining how magic was passed down in wizarding families in the Harry Potter series. I've also explained math with video games, physics with sports, and chemistry with Play-Doh. It really depends on the student. I like to explain why things happen in the subject and then guide the student to come to their own conclusions to solve problems. I also adapt to the style of learning that works best for the student (auditory, visual, kinesthetic, etc.) and like to help create study materials the student can use long after we've finished our tutoring session.
