Fun Facts

One passion that people quickly learn about me is that I love to cook!!! Any free moments I have are spent in the kitchen baking something or experimenting to create a new entree for dinner guests. I'm still learning about new techniques and can always learn more, I truly enjoy getting all covered in flour as I sing and dance to the beat and make a delicious treat. In the future I hope to go sky diving and learn how to surf.

About Me

I am a second grade teacher in Maryland. I graduated from Messiah College as an Elementary and education/maryland/baltimore">Special Education Major with Minors in TESOL and Speech Language Pathology. I was on the Dean's list for 4 years. Upon graduation, I received the Ethel Brandt Bigham Endowed Education Award for outstanding academics, service, and leadership. I have presented at two CEC International conventions on creating legally defensible IEPs. I am an educator who strives to meet each student's unique needs.

Experience

As a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, I have had the opportunity to engage in hands on mathematics teaching experiences. I have tutored elementary, middle, high school, and college students in a variety of subjects: math, reading, test prep, ESL, etc. I have student taught at urban and suburban schools as well as in Indonesia and volunteered to teach and lead literacy, math, and science nights at local elementary schools.

Approach

As a child, I struggled with dyslexia and so reading and comprehension was difficult for me. When I was in fifth grade I had the opportunity to work with a teacher who taught me how to overcome my dyslexia struggles in order to comprehend better. As a tutor, I attempt to bring an encouraging attitude to my students as I challenge them to persist in their understanding and never give up. Rather than simply provide students the answers, I present multiple means to solve the problem on their own.
