Approach
When meeting a new student, I ask for a syllabus or some concepts that their teacher or professor had discuss in their class. For the most part, I would refresh myself with the material or topics the student is having trouble with to the point where I feel comfortable to teach the student. I honestly don't feel it's worthwhile to give them a straightforward answer or the solution, so I normally walk through examples with them and help them guide to the right answer and clarify any questions.
