Fun Facts

I am originally from Texas, and one of my hobbies is shark fishing! My grandparents have a house on the coast, and my family head down in the summer to go to the beach and fish the bays. While my family likes to catch fish they can eat, my hope for a more toothy catch. (Don't worry because I'm all about conservation. Catch-and-release only.)
I also enjoy reading, writing, art, being outside, shopping, and drinking coffee.

About Me

I am an English Ph.D. student at TCU studying Rhetoric and Composition. In addition to taking classes, I also teach first-year writing and support students at the writing center. I graduated cum laude from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas with a Bachelor's degree in English writing (specializing in rhetoric and composition) and psychology. During my time in undergrad, I also participated in mentoring programs and as teaching assistants for 3 different classes.

Experience

As a graduate student in English, many of classes and seminar projects are pedagogically focused, looking at ways to foster student engagement with social justice initiatives.
While working as a teaching assistant, I often met with students one-on-one to working on any stage of the writing process from pre-writing to the final proofing. I also worked with students in class and as a relay between the students and the professors. I created and graded tests and quizzes, and graded assignments.

Approach

Although curious and passionate about learning, I struggled in school having the magic trifecta of dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. However, having these learning differences caused me to realize that I was a born problem-solver. After reframing my differences as a superpower, I was able to regain my confidence as a student and find learning strategies that helped me grow as a student. Looking back, I want to inspire others to find their own superpowers so that they can be successful too.
