Fun Facts
My favorite thing to do is read! I read at least 4-5 books a month and I'm always searching for my next good read.
About Me
I am a high school English teacher and graduate student in Atlanta, Georgia. My goal is to earn Ph.D. in literary studies and become a university professor.
Experience
In high school, I began tutoring privately for families in my community. While in college, I continued tutoring and eventually landed a job at the Boys & Girls Club as a learning instructor. Following graduation, I traveled to Costa Rica to earn my EFL certification and taught ESL classes for a month there. Upon returning to Atlanta, I continued teaching ESL and began teaching high school English.
Approach
My approach to teaching is to always first understand where my student is having a disconnect in the lesson and to dissect the problem in order to create a better understanding. I find that most students who struggle with reading and writing, primarily have an issue with comprehension and in turn, vocalizing their understanding of the text. I have learned to apply a number of strategies to change the way students interact with the material in order to improve their retention.
