Fun Facts
One of my favorite things to tell people is that I am Nigerian. Though I am a first generation American, my parents have raised me fully engulfed in the culture and customs of my people. I love everything about being Nigerian; from the food to the clothes to the music, I identify strongly with this aspect of my identity. Secondly, I always like to mention the fact that I am quite tall. I stand at 5 feet and 10 inches!
About Me
I am a junior Biochemistry major at Georgetown University. I pride myself on having a diverse range of interests, and have taken advantage of the University setting to explore my societal niche. I hope to one day become a Physician with goals of bettering access to healthcare for all.
Experience
Because I school quite a distance from home, I have had a lot of experience. In Houston, I worked for a company called Mr. Jan's Math Class where I tutored all types of math and a little bit of chemistry to students of all ages. Upon moving to DC, I worked at the Mathnasium of Arlington, where I helped students K-12 improve their math skills as well as complete homework assignments. Now, I work as both a private tutor, and as a writing consultant for Georgetown's Writing Center.
Approach
As time has progressed, I have come to understand that a lot of students depend almost entirely on a good tutor to guide them through a class. As a result, I helped my kids complete the task at hand, and then began to teach them how to get ahead by giving them helpful strategies and mnemonic devices that would help them remember lessons taught in class. At the end of our time together, a lot of my students told me that “learning” was their favorite part of getting help.
