Fun Facts
I am a trained ballroom dancer and vegetarian extraordinaire. My friends say I have this uncanny ability to get shy people to come out of their shell. I love finding out a person's favorite dessert, and surprise them by baking it. I believe everyone is special and unique and desires to show that side of themselves. I sincerely believe in God and a large part of my identity can be found in that belief.
About Me
I just returned from a year abroad in Bologna, Italy, otherwise known as the meat capitol of Italy. (Fantastic!) I hope to one day have a career in language education, translation or film. I speak English, Italian and Spanish and would love to have the opportunity to use all three languages in my future profession.
I have had much tutoring work experience. Summer of 2008 I was a live-in nanny responsible not only for planning fun activities, keeping the children safe and fed but I also planned daily math and reading-comprehension/california/los-angeles">reading comprehension activities. Then I worked for Bruincorps Tutoring (for all subjects) from Sept 2009-June 2010. Three times a week I would go to Culver City Teen Center and tutored 2 students regularly as well as any other students with questions about their homework or school projects. I tutored English in Italy during my year abroad (September 2010-June 2011). From ages 6-18 , through private tutoring or English tutoring organizations, I clarified grammar, gave presentations on American culture, corrected writing samples and planned fun language learning activities. Since I have returned from Italy I have begun tutoring UCLA students taking Italian courses for 5 hours every week.
I try to understand why each person is struggling or unmotivated in a certain subject before I plan their lessons. It is important to establish a more relaxed environment early on in the tutoring in order to encourage willingness to ask questions, an action that, in turn, increases the tutee's investment in the subject area. I ensure a relaxed environment through positive reinforcement and regularly demonstrating progress made. I make sure to explain important concepts in different ways, implementing auditory, visual, tactile and cognitive aspects into these activities. Variation, I believe, keeps their interest and fortifies the concepts more concretely so much so they would be able to do it on their own without me by their side.
