About Me
I am currently a second semester sophomore at St. Joseph's University. I am majoring in English and minoring in Sociology. Although it is not one of my focus areas of study, I am passionate about art and take art classes whenever I have a spare elective. After graduation I plan on joining the Peace Corps. and doing service for 1-2 years in Africa. After which I hope to work for a non-profit organization, such as Red Cross or Catholic Charities, and travel.
In high school I had the opportunity to volunteer at Father English Center, which is an after school program for elementary school children. There I spent the day philadelphia">tutoring all general subjects for elementary school levels. Additionally, I have been babysitting for as long as I can remember and have helped the kids with their homework after school. Also, two years ago I was fortunate enough to philadelphia">tutor the English language to African nuns who taught me just as much about their culture as I taught them. It was a wonderful experience.
Because I have worked with children before I understand their attention span and how much work they can handle before they completely tune you out. My approach to philadelphia">tutoring is to make the "work" not seem like work. In order to learn and retain the information, the student has to be interested in what he/she is studying. I plan to make the philadelphia">tutoring sessions fun and something the child looks forward to.
