Fun Facts

I'm a huge fan of Star Trek! I think it's one of the best shows ever created but I love lots of other sci-fi shows and books too! I spent my summer in Tibet and China exploring monasteries and I saw Mount Everest, which they call Mt. Qomolangma in Tibet. I have a pet hedgehog named Ianto and a pet beta fish named Gyarados!

About Me

I'm a junior English/Creative Writing major at washington/seattle">seattle-university">washington/seattle">Seattle University and I'm minoring in Chinese. When I graduate I would like to explore Asia and teach English in foreign countries.

Last year I had the wonderful opportunity to work for Jumpstart, a non-profit organization that goes into low income preschools and helps boost literacy rates. I was able to work with different groups of preschoolers throughout the school year, collaborating with them to improve their reading and writing skills. We took a very hands on approach, not only reading to and with them as well as practicing writing, but also helping them grow and learn to express themselves through art, games, and conversation.

washington/washington/seattle">seattle">Tutoring is all about guiding students to answers and asking questions that inspire them to look at situations and problems from different points of views, rather than simply giving answers to questions. The most important thing, I believe, is that washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutoring is a holistic activity; it requires getting to know students in order to understand their strengths and weaknesses and working with them to improve other aspects of the person through focus on certain issues. For instance, helping a student become more comfortable communicating, both through dialogue and writing, by helping them learn to write confidently.
