Fun Facts
I recently have taken up astrophotography- the photography of planets and other astronomical object in the night sky- as a hobby. Although it takes countless hours to set up my telescope and cameras to capture pictures, the outcome is totally worth it! Another fun fact about me it that I would like to be a polyglot- I speak English, Spanish, and Gujrati fluently. I can understand Hindi, and I am currently studying German 2 and French 1.
About Me
I am a first year Psychology student at the chicago">University of Illinois at Chicago. Additionally, I'm minoring in Physics and I am also on the Pre-medicine track. My GPA right now is 4.0 and it was 3.5 in high school. After completing my undergraduate schooling, I'm hoping to go to medical school, and then getting a specialty in Psychiatry. One of my ultimate goals in life is to have my own clinic in the city and provide psychiatric counseling for the homeless/those who can't afford the healthcare. Since I am interested in astronomy, I might go back to school after working as a doctor for a few years to earn a Master's in astrophysics!
I worked at Kumon Learning Center for a little under two years in high school. I helped kids aged anywhere from 3-18 years old with reading, writing, and math skills. I have worked with a variety of kids who each had a slightly different way of learning. Some kids preferred that I went through questions orally, some like to see me work out problems on paper, and others preferred to be hands on and approach the problem themselves. Regardless of their preference, I was able to shape my teaching methods to help them understand their homework and perform at an optimal level. I think that figuring out how a student senses, perceives and analyzes information is key to helping students learn.
My chicago">tutoring approach is very simple. I spend some time understanding how students learn, since each student is different, and I develop a technique to help that student learn the skills they need. For example, if I figure out that you learn best using your eyes to train your brain, I know to work out math problems on a white board, help you make flashcards, and assist you in creating graphs, charts, timelines, and other visual aid to help remember information.
As far as ACT chicago">tutoring goes, I know a lot of tricks and helpful hints to remember when taking the exam. I have taken the test 5 times, and I've taken over 15 practice tests.
