About Me
I graduated from TCU May 2011 with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Education. I have just finished my first year of Graduate School at TCU, pursuing a Masters in the Art of Teaching Mathematics. My ultimate goal is to teach middle school, high school, or college mathematics. My favorite subject is Calculus I.
I am a certified High School Mathematics Teacher. I have taught Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Algebra I and regular Algebra I. This fall I will be teaching Topics in Mathematics (MATH 10033) at TCU. I have tutored students in several high school courses including Geometry, Algebra I and II, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. I have also tutored several college courses including Calculus I and II, Multi-variable Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, and Linear Algebra in addition to helping students prepare for the math section of the SAT and GRE.
It is my goal to help students learn the material by explaining the "why" and the "how" behind the concepts. Algorithms and formulas are very difficult to memorize and are easily forgotten. However, when students understand why and how the procedures work, they are more likely to remember them and apply them in the appropriate situations. My tutoring approach is to allow the student to solve problems and answer questions based on their intuition and prior knowledge. From here, I can correct any misconceptions and build on what the students already know.
