Fun Facts

When I was a kid, my family lived all over the place. Sometimes we spoke 3 languages at once at home! Because of those experiences, I have a strong love both for languages and for people who are different from me. My favorite thing to do is try to make something delicious from scratch. Last week I made oreos! One day I hope to write a novel - it's a big undertaking, but so worthwhile.

About Me

I am a graduate of Emory University, and the recipient in my graduating class of the Award for Excellence in the Study of Linguistics and Psychology. I graduated a year and a half ago, and since then have been a English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teaching Assistant in Vienna, and have begun to professionally pursue one of my passions in life - baking. Eventually I hope to become an author and teacher of culinary arts at the high school level.

For two of my years as an undergraduate, I was a peer writing atlanta">tutor for the Emory Undergraduate ESL Program. Because the program was so successful, and I so thoroughly enjoyed helping students with their writing, in my second year I helped launch the Undergraduate ESL Lab, a less intensive setting where students could come to work on their papers while also having access to a atlanta">tutor as needed. When I graduated, I was delighted to continue working with ESL students as a Foreign Language TA in two high schools in Vienna through the Austrian American Educational Commission. Working with Frog atlanta">Tutoring gives me the opportunity to continue doing one of the things I love best - helping students learn one-on-one!

In the middle school I attended, students' favorite way to learn was by rote memorization. I was never particularly good at learning this way - instead I preferred to apply curiosity to what I was learning, and try to understand how things worked together. In my college psychology courses I learned that the method I had preferred as a child (making connections and asking questions) was a more effective way of learning, that produces lasting results. So my first goal in atlanta">tutoring is to help the student get engage with their material by getting curious about it. In doing so, I hope to teach them how to use resources they already have to tackle problems they've never seen before.
