Fun Facts

Reading is my favorite pastime. I love to read just about anything from the classics to science fiction. I am also really fascinated by history- particularly the Holocaust. I hope to one day be able to travel the world and see famous historical landmarks, such as the concentration camps and battlegrounds.

About Me

I am an elementary education major, and English minor, at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am currently a junior, graduating in May of 2015. I have a major GPA of 3.6 and have been on the Dean's list for the past three years. After college, I plan to attend graduate school to study reading education. After graduate school, I hope to become a reading facilitator for an elementary school.

I have experience charlotte">tutoring children in pre-school through third grade, in all subject areas. I am very familiar with the standards children at these grade levels are required to meet, and the best methods to help children meet these standards. I have created and implemented a direct and explicit phonics program for a pre-schooler and a kindergartener. I also have extensive knowledge with the balanced literacy model, used by most schools, and know how to assess students in order to make the best plan to address their individual strengths and weaknesses.

I am a firm believer that students reach the highest level of success when their is a general consensus on the achievements expected from the student, from the parents/guardians, charlotte">tutor, and student. charlotte">Tutoring should be customized to the needs of the individual student. In order to make the most effective plan for a student you must first assess their strengths and weaknesses. I also like to learn more about a child's learning style, for example,whether they are a visual, kinesthetic, or verbal learner. These two components will tell you exactly what a student needs help with and the most effective method to instruct them. I find this approach to charlotte">tutoring very effective for many students.
