Fun Facts

I have a fascination with international cultures, so I enjoy traveling, understanding cultures abroad, and meeting diverse individuals.
Skylines in large cities, such as Chicago are my favorite images (in person and photos).
I ran my first 10k race on October 1st, and I hope to participate in the Chicago marathon in the next 1 or 2 years.
Writing poetry and experiencing various forms of art and expression such as photography, performing arts, paintings, fashion design and music are highly intriguing to me.

About Me

My name is Cicely, and in August 2011, I began my master's in clinical psychology at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois in order to become a child/family social worker and counselor following the completion of the degree. I currently hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and sociology with a criminal justice emphasis. I chose this field of study and career path because I enjoy researching the subject outside of the classroom, and I believe that everyone should have an opportunity to live a fulfilling life no matter their circumstances.

Also, I believe that my specialty has allowed me to develop effective mentoring skills. I currently teach English as a second language to adult refugees. In addition, I worked as an independent living counselor for a year and half where one of my duties were to help the young adults with intellectual disabilities succeed in school. Therefore, I am accustomed to and enjoy mentoring non-traditional students as well as traditional students.

My approach as a chicago">tutor would be to first establish trust between the student and myself by assuring that I am not an authority figure nor judging him or her since each individual needs assistance to accomplish his or her goals. Once trust is established, the student and I can work as a team in order for improvements to show in the classroom and to ultimately reach their goals and succeed.
