Fun Facts
I am a huge fanatic of books. Most weekends you can find me combing through the shelves of an old bookstore, marveling at the words and enjoying the stories. In addition, I am the youngest of two daughters and the proud owner of a yorkie-poo puppy. When I look at the next ten years, I see myself as a published author, mother and, still, proud dog owner.
About Me
I am a journalist living in Williamsburg and a graduate student at VCU earning an MA in English. I received a BA in Literary Studies from Roanoke College. In the past I have been published in a number of publications from newspapers to magazines.
Experience
I have been a professional writer for nearly five years, but I have been writing for newspapers since I was 15 years old. At Roanoke College, I ran the student newspaper which gave me the experience to work with students to improve writing, communication and educational skills. In the past, I have tutored students through writing and reading to succeed both academically and professionally.
Approach
As a young student, I struggled in reading and writing. So much so that in fifth grade I failed my reading SOL. Through this experience, I was able to teach myself the skills that allowed me not only to be successful but to find a life-long passion. I believe that what makes a student successful is making a personal connection with the material. Once a students learns how their education applies to their life and those around them, then what they are learning takes on a whole new meaning.
