Fun Facts

I am currently taking a class to learn American Sign Language because I have been interested for many years; especially after watching the show 'Switched at Birth'. I also want to become fluent and Spanish and French someday. Lastly, when I was in 3rd and 4th grade I lived in Gaeta, Italy and attended an American school.

About Me

I graduated with both my bachelor's and master's degree in elementary education from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). I have taught every grade from K-6, excluding kindergarten. I chose teaching as a profession because I LOVED school growing up and want to continue to spread the love of learning. It is my belief that learning has no expiration date. I have worked with children for over ten years.

Experience

I have tutored math for both fourth and fifth grade students for the past two years. Over the summers of 2017 and 2018 I worked as a upper elementary teacher for the 100 Black Men Summer Academy. At this academy I taught academics in the morning with more relaxed and free play afternoons. Working with Frog Tutoring will provide me the opportunity to continue to reach and help students in a smaller learning helping to increase academic mastery and success.

Approach

Personally I am a visual and kinesthetic learner. So after talking things out and explaining, I always demonstrate with concrete examples and models if possible. I understand that it takes more than just hearing something for it to truly stick. I always encourage students to push past frustration and to use the growth mindset. I believe in the power of yet and positive framing. "I don't get it yet" instead of "I can't do this" or "I don't know".
