Fun Facts
I might look delicate, but I have been doing kickboxing for more than a year. Also, I love the Western culture a lot; therefore, I worked two jobs simultaneously during the summer, saved up money, and traveled to Europe for three weeks all by myself. It was scary but fun and adventurous at the same time. I made lots of friends along the way, learned many interesting cultural facts, and gathered meaningful memories
About Me
I am a junior Comparative English and Literature major at San Jose State University. Although English is not my first language, I never give up on it and overcome all of my obstacles. I've been on the Dean's List for one year. When I graduate, I would like to continue to earn my Master Degree in English at University of California, Los Angeles. My goal is becoming an English professor and write a great American novel
Experience
I worked as an AVID tutor at Yerba Buena High School for more than a year. My jobs were translating for Vietnamese students and assisting AVID and ESL students with their assignments and homework. The subjects included math, chemistry, English, and history. I also volunteered as recreation leader at Rolling Hills Middle School. I supervised students, assisted them with their homework, and arranging outdoor activities.
Approach
When I came to the US, English was my weakest subject. I went through a language shock and fell into depression because I could not understand my teachers' lectures and my friends' conversations. I found no interest in learning English. However, for some unknown reasons, I started to love reading a lot when I went to high school. I found literature as a peaceful "place" to rest. My English improved tremendously. I also love doing math.
