In high school, I was an official weekly philadelphia">tutor, philadelphia">tutoring my peers in subjects such as Biology, Algebra, English, and Writing. I also informally tutored my peers my first year in grad school in my Biostatistics course. During the summer of 2012, I was a Environmental Education Intern for a summer camp composed of elementary school aged children. For this position, I taught topics centered on environmental science and biology to the children. Moreover, I was responsible for developing educational materials and programs to implement with the students.
When philadelphia">tutoring others, I like to cater to the needs of the individual and learn about what techniques have worked for them as well as those that were not successful. I also try to use methods that have been most effective for myself throughout my studies. I focus on repetition, which helps to retain information more effectively. Also, flash cards are very useful, especially for mathematics or English-related subjects because they serve as helpful reminders and they can easily be transported and used whenever needed.
