Fun Facts
I enjoy surfing, sky-diving, lazer tagging, cooking (especially Italian, Creole, French, and Carribbean cuisine), and latin dancing. I know the scripts/lyrics in their entirety to a number of films and epic-length song productions (e.g. Legally Blonde, Star Trek: The Warth of Khan, and all of Trapped in the Closet by R. Kelley just to name a few). I do an AWESOME impersonation of Golom/Smeegul from the Lord of the Rings.
About Me
College:
Williams College (MA, USA) and Oxford University (United Kingdom, Great Britain)
About Me: I'm a recent college graduate who is originally from Little Rock, AR. I've moved to Memphis to take a position as a middle school science teacher in the Memphis City Schools school district as a part of Teach for America. After finishing Teach for America I plan on going back to graduate and professional school for a master's in education, a doctorate in education, and a law degree.
Experience: All throughout college and high school I tutored students from middle school to college age. My specializations are math-elementary/tennessee/memphis">elementary math and science, middle school science, history, government, political science, reading, writing, and general English all the way to the collegiate level. I am certified as a Tennessee teacher in middle school content knowledge.
I also am particularly knowledgeable about college admissions and have given presentations and assistance with this for over five years now. I worked in a college admissions office. I also gained admission to 18 of the U.S.'s top national universities and liberal arts colleges with full scholarship offers to each ( Duke, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin, Swarthmore, MIT, Wesleyan, and others).
Approach: My approach is to first and foremost build a relationship with the tutee. By finding out their interests, goals, and obstacles I'm better able to craft a path towards mastery. If their is a way to spark a passion for a subject that is clearly difficult to master, I'll find it ! This can range from making real-world connections to creating questions that place the tutee at the center of the problem. Another element of my approach is encouragement, another key ingredient in helping stay dedicated when dealing with difficult course material.
