During my time at washington-university">George washington-university">Washington University, I spent three years as a minneapolis">tutor for DC Reads, a program that places university students into DC public schools as minneapolis">tutors and teachers aids. I worked with elementary students grades K-5, helping with test prep, homework, math and reading. Additionally, I have worked privately as a minneapolis">tutor during high school and college, helping middle school and high school students with homework, study skills, organizational skills, language skills, and academic writing. I also spent two years during high school volunteering with an after-school program at Mar Vista Family Center in Los Angeles, working with a mainly hispanic community of elementary students to facilitate homework help.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and working individually with students, and I believe that forming a close personal bond where I can assess someone's strengths, weaknesses, insecurities, and needs is crucial to helping someone develop skills and confidence. In my experience, teaching a subject is just as much about inspiring someone and sparking their interest as it is presenting material. Many students struggling in school do so because of lack of interest, or because they believe they are not able to achieve based on previous scores. My method is to not only increase skills and raise a students' grades, but more importantly to raise their confidence and help them truly believe that they can and want to succeed by working hard and seeing results.
